Since our inception, the Women's Funding Alliance (WFA) has distributed
more than $3.78 million to over 100 organizations, helping thousands
of women and girls in our community. WFA invests in progressive,
visionary and vibrant organizations working to address issues
around education and leadership, poverty, domestic violence, discrimination
and reproductive freedom.
Formation 1983
The Women's Funding Alliance was formed in 1983 as a way to enable
women's and girls' organizations to raise money through workplace
giving campaigns.
Founding Mothers
The "founding mothers" thought that forming a federation
focused on women and girls would help them build an ongoing revenue
stream. They also hoped that by collaborating they could raise
awareness about women's issues and provide support to each other.
The five founding organizations included: Aradia Women's Health
Center; Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence;
Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress; King
County Sexual Assault Resource Center; and Seattle Rape Relief.
Currently
WFA currently distributes funds to organizations through federation
funding, grants, and donor circles. The Alliance also plays an
important role in building valuable community connections and
raising awareness about issues affecting women and girls.
